Meet at Schuberts Woods located on the North side Sauk Trail Rd between Western and Ashland. 247 Monee Road Park Forest, IL 60466 (773) 238-0222 Download Map Download Trail Map At 880 acres, Thorn Creek Nature Preserve lies at the headwaters of Thorn Creek and consists of bottomlands, ravines, white-oak forest interspersed with marsh and meadows. It's 880 acres is comprised of dry mesic oak hickory forest dominated by 150 year old white and red oak trees with a rich understory of native shrubs and spring wildflowers. The diverse terrain also includes Thorn Creek and its tributaries, glacial pothole ponds and marshes, successional old fields and prairie remnants.
Thorn Creek's 2.5 miles of hiking trails display the loveliness of the preserve's surroundings and are a must see. The trails include a trip around Owl Lake and along a boardwalk through the marsh.
